Scrappy Wacky

It's the end of the Guild meetings for the summer. I am thinking that most of us have collected a lot of scraps over the past several months!! What better way to use up a few than to create a scrappy block?

This is a 10.5" UNFINISHED Block.

This block was REALLY easy to put together.

POPPY

SPRING is here!!  well, sort of...this weather has been a little crazy, but I think of flowers blooming this time of year and that's how I decided on the POPPY!  This is a 10.5" UNFINISHED Block.
This block was REALLY easy to put together.

The full pattern has options for 3 different size blocks; we are using the 10" block instructions.  There are also options for how to assemble multiple blocks into a quilt.

Kaye's Courtyard

(a sample block from the Dear Jane Quilt Blocks)

Have YOU ever looked at a completed Dear Jane Quilt and thought there is NO way you could ever complete one?  This month's block is just a taste of one block that is found within this quilt.  Give it try; it should only take about 30 minutes or less of you time.  Enjoy!

I have been working on a Dear Jane Quilt for about 2 years now.  I really need to stop taking on new projects and finish this masterpiece.  For me, each block has it's own story. I am actually making 2; one for me (called Lisa's Gone Wild) and the other one is for my mother (called Lady's Got the Blues).  My husband drove up to Vermont with me to visit this treasure of a quilt and we had a great weekend!

I had a small item (Tissue Cover) with all four sides being different JANE blocks in an exhibit at the VA Quilt Museum which was curated by Doreen Johnson!  It was an honor....

Here are just a few Dear Jane Links.....

SHARE A CUP OF...

Coffee     Java     Cocoa     Tea     Sew     Smile     Your own word…

This month's block is about relaxing and enjoying a hot cup of (insert your imagination).  Alone, with a friend, or an entire group of people, sharing a cup of something and good conversation can always be a rewarding experience.

I often plan in my head a tea party where I invite sewing friends over, everyone wearing their Sunday best, maybe a hat, and sitting around the table just enjoying each other's company while sipping from beautiful, non-matching tea cups, munching on tiny foods, and telling funny stories or whatever comes to mind.  Perhaps one day.

Method: Paper (foundation) Piecing / Machine Piecing (this is a ONE piece foundation pattern and fairly easy to follow, please don't be discouraged if you do not paper piece)

Skill Level: Confident Beginner
Block Size: 10.5" Square
Background Color: Cream or Shirting style
Cup / Handle Color(s): YOUR CHOICE; something bright and cheerful; you can use scraps
Saucer: YOUR CHOICE; something bright and cheerful; you can use scraps; same fabric as the cup or contrasting

BONUS - BUNNY TREAT BAG!

This month I'm including a simple pattern for Easter.  It's a bunny treat bag and is the perfect size for a small toy, a few pieces of candy, a candle, jewelry, or whatever you can imagine.  The linked blog below has all the information about the pattern and it's where I found this lovely little gift idea.  TWO Fat Quarters makes approximately 3 of these little bags if you're using contrasting fabrics.

2015_12 (December) BOM

(All information on this blog is created specifically for the Centreville Quilt Guild and all instructions are Bogey Inspired 2015; Do not disseminate or recreate for resale purposes without written permission from the owner.)

CANDLE OF PEACE is this month's block.

Method used: Machine Piecing, Applique (simple)

This block was chosen because of all the turmoil currently occurring across the globe. Moving into the holiday months it would be nice if each candle block brought peace and hope to just one person.

We all use candles for various reasons; if you look "candle" up on the internet there are 1,000s of results regarding types, uses, meaning, etc.

I mostly burn candles for the scent, however on occasion, like when my dad passed away, I had a candle lit for days because it somehow made me feel closer to him even though I knew he was gone. Other than that, there is something calming to me about watching the flame of a candle.

CHIME IN:  If you use candles, why do you burn them and is there a special meaning for you?  Leave a comment below to share your story.

I listen to this ALL YEAR long, although it was intended as a holiday commercial for Glade candles:

BRING BOTH YOUR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER BLOCK TO DECEMBER'S MEETING. WE'LL HAVE 2 DRAWINGS!

Until next month, happy sewing!!
